Our rallies are held on the second Sunday of each month beginning at 9a.m. during the summer months or 10a.m. during the winter months. Two series of 1 hour lessons are held before lunch. There is a 45 min lunch break, and another set of lessons are held in the afternoon. 3PE sessions will run hourly and will go through the day depending on numbers.
We typically have 3 or 4 instructors for each rally teaching dressage, poles, show jumping and cross-country. We cater for all riding levels and abilities. Lesson groups consist of up to 4 riders of similar ability. We also have 3PE sessions available at rally. 3PE consist of groups up to 3 riders and both in-hand and ridden sessions are available.
Rallies need to be booked AND PAID FOR at the time of booking. This is to allow us to book the required number of instructors and to group members in appropriate lessons. An email from the Rally Organiser is sent to members approximately 1 week prior to rally asking for bookings. Details about rallies are also included in the monthly newsletter.
Members who participate in jumping, poles or 3PE lessons at rally are expected to help set up and/or pack up. You may also be rostered on to help out in the office, be a First Aid Officer (if qualified) or perform lunch/canteen duty.
Elcho Park is a council owned reserve of 30 hectares in size. It is ideally set up for horse riding with 7 permanent, surfaced dressage arenas, 2 sand show-jumping arenas, several fenced riding areas (grass and sand) and a cross-country course which caters for level 5 up to level 1. There are 200+ horse yards and a concrete based horse wash available for use. Dedicated manure pits have been installed to assist users to keep the grounds clean.
There is a modern clubroom facility which is used for meetings, rallies and competitions. Showers are available in the clubrooms and there is a large, well-set up canteen facility/kitchen.
To ride at rallies you will require riding boots, suitable riding attire (club uniform not required) and a currently rated Riding Helmet. The H.R.C.A.V. rules state that an approved equestrian helmet with a fixed harness MUST be worn at all times whilst mounted. The required standards for helmets at H.R.C.A.V. competitions (and at our rallies) are available on the H.R.C.A.V. website.
